6.1 - iRVision 2D Part 1 - Setting Up the Camera
This video introduces the process of integrating FANUC’s iRVision 2D camera with the CRX collaborative robot to enable vision-guided part picking. Designed for unfixtured parts, iRVision enhances flexibility and automation by allowing the robot to locate and handle items in varying positions and orientations.
The training begins with an overview of the benefits of adding iRVision to your CRX system. Users can choose between robot-mounted or fixed-mounted camera configurations. Robot-mounted cameras offer greater flexibility, while fixed-mounted setups can reduce cycle time by capturing images during other robot operations.
The video walks through the steps for connecting the camera to the robot and controller, emphasizing the importance of powering down the system before making connections. Once the hardware is in place, users are guided through the camera setup process using the program editor.
Key steps include:
- Camera Initialization: Selecting the mounting type and preparing the calibration grid.
- Focus and Aperture Adjustment: Ensuring the camera lens is properly tuned for clear image capture.
- Calibration: Teaching the robot the spatial relationship between the camera and the work surface using a grid pattern.
Proper calibration is critical for accurate part detection and reliable robot performance. The video demonstrates how to execute the calibration routine and verify successful setup.
This module lays the foundation for vision-based automation with the CRX robot. In the next video, users will learn how to train the vision system to identify specific parts and program the robot to pick them accurately.
